Sustainability as Both a Commitment and a Business Value: Bio Circle Balticum Participates in a Žinių Radijas Conference
-

How can sustainability principles be translated into tangible business value? Which solutions help companies improve operational efficiency, strengthen competitiveness and communicate their environmental impact responsibly? These questions were at the heart of the Žinių radijas conference, “Sustainable Business: From Trend to Value”, held in Vilnius on 15 October. Bio Circle Balticum team members Evelina and Gabija also attended the event.
Held at Sapieha Palace, the conference brought together experts in economics, finance, law, communications and sustainability, alongside business representatives. Presentations and discussions explored how organisations can move beyond isolated environmental initiatives towards a consistent sustainability strategy supported by measurable results.
One of the key messages of the event was that sustainability should not be viewed as a separate area of business activity or merely an additional obligation. When effectively integrated into business processes, it can become a driver of operational efficiency, innovation and long-term competitiveness.
From Sustainability Ambitions to Measurable ResultsThe conference programme placed particular emphasis on the economic value of sustainability and the practical implementation of solutions. Economists Greta Ilekytė and Marius Dubnikovas examined the impact of geopolitical developments on sustainability policies and the role of sustainability in building competitive advantage.
Other presentations addressed practical steps organisations can take to initiate sustainability improvements without major investments, methods for assessing the return on sustainability initiatives and available financing opportunities. The importance of supply chains in achieving environmental objectives was also discussed, as companies increasingly need to consider not only their direct operations but also the impact associated with their suppliers and business partners. These topics are particularly relevant to the industrial sector, where even relatively minor changes to technological processes can significantly affect resource consumption, work organisation and long-term operating costs.
Responsible Communication Starts with Substantiated ClaimsAnother important topic of the conference was the growing scrutiny of sustainability-related communications. Inga Grinevičė, a representative of Lithuania’s State Consumer Rights Protection Authority, presented the risks of greenwashing and the principles of responsible communication.
For businesses, it is becoming increasingly important not only to implement solutions with a lower environmental impact, but also to substantiate their public claims with objective evidence. Terms such as “eco-friendly”, “environmentally friendly” or “sustainable” cannot replace specific data concerning a product’s properties, its use or its environmental impact.
This is particularly important in the industrial chemicals sector. The environmental characteristics of products must be assessed in relation to their composition, conditions of use, performance and other objective criteria. Responsible communication therefore depends on technical expertise, transparency and verifiable product characteristics.
More Sustainable Industry Starts with Everyday ProcessesAt Bio Circle Balticum, these principles are closely linked to improving industrial cleaning and maintenance processes. The company develops and supplies cleaning technologies and chemical products that help industrial businesses address equipment and component cleaning challenges, explore alternatives to conventional solvent-based cleaners and improve working environments.
In practice, more responsible cleaning goes beyond simply selecting the right product. It requires evaluating the entire process, including the chemicals used, their concentrations, cleaning performance, workers’ exposure to chemical substances, equipment operation, and water and energy consumption.
This comprehensive approach helps identify solutions that meet companies’ technical, economic and environmental requirements.
Sharing Knowledge and Experience Is Essential to ProgressParticipation in the “Sustainable Business: From Trend to Value” conference provided an opportunity to learn from companies across different sectors, gain insights from experts on changes in sustainability regulations and explore practical approaches to assessing the benefits of responsible business decisions.
Bio Circle Balticum remains committed to contributing to the development of safer and more efficient industrial processes. Discussions on the measurable value of sustainability, responsible communication and long-term business competitiveness are therefore directly aligned with the company’s strategic direction. Progress in sustainability begins not with declarations, but with concrete, evidence-based decisions that create value for businesses, employees and the environment.
